I came here during their happy hour (5pm-close daily) which includes $9 signature cocktails, $5 beers, spirits, and wines, and a variety of pupus. The entrance to the building of the place is a little hidden but you have to take an elevator to the 18th floor which will lead you to Sky Waikiki. Then go up another level to get to Top of Waikiki. They have a rotating bar area that overlooks the ocean as well as the skyscrapers of Waikiki so it really does feel like the top of Waikiki! My first drink was the Hawaiian hurricane ($9) which was a good drink with good balance. My second drink was the gummy bear martini ($9) which was delicious! It was both tart and sweet and was so nice that I ordered it twice. It was definitely an amazing cocktail and one of my favorites from my time in Oahu. I'll definitely be thinking about coming back to Top of Waikiki just for this cocktail. Fun fact: it takes one hour for a complete rotation of the top. I stayed here for coincidentally one hour and my bartender mentioned it as I was leaving. It's really cool to look around every couple minutes and have a different view when you look outside.
We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here, during our trip to Honolulu. We ordered the Top of Waikiki's Famous Gummy Bear Martini and old fashioned for drinks. The gummy bear martini was very yummy, it had the perfect amount of alcohol and sweetness and the gummy bears were very cute and went very well with the drink. The old fashioned was pretty good as well. They have happy hour at the bar, so we sat at the bar until our table was ready. We made reservations, but wanted to sit at the side by the windows so we had to wait for a bit. We oredered the blue crab cakes and diver scallops for our appetizers. Theres only two scallops and two crab cakes in each other. Both appetizers were yummy! Very flavorful with great texture and did not taste fishy. I ordered the soy miso braised short ribs for my entree with a side of lobster tail. I was craving lobster and this hit the spot! My bf ordered fish for his entree, I forgot what it was called :( and king crab legs as a side. We also ordered an apple pie for dessert and i asked for a candle since it was my boyfriend's birthday. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and everything that we ordered. The service was good, but not the best. In my reservations, I added a note that it was my boyfriend's birthday and the server did not acknowledge it during our dinner and did not provide any type of complimentary dessert except the candle and the chocolate writing that I requested lol. Our experience felt very touristy and not as much of a fine dining service/dining experience, which is dissapointing, but I guess can also be expected since its the top of waikiki and a revolving restaurant. The views of the city was nice. We went at night so we weren't able to see the sunset or day views, but overall our experience was enjoyable.
Last time I was here was about 10 years ago and some things do not change. If you you want a place with a great view, or a place to take out of towners, or a special occasion, this is a place to consider! It was almost exactly what I remember from the last time I went. Best bet is to look up the time of sunset and then make your reservations! It may not be that difficult to get a table if you make it ahead of time since it will probably be close to first seating. But if the weather is nice, you will be treated to a nice sunset view of waikiki and stay long enough, to see some city lights. Food is 4 stars. An Asian fusion and farm to table concept to support the local growers. Had a few glasses of wine and the pours were above average, with an average wine selection. Duck pizza appetizer was a-ok and so was the calamari. Wifey had short ribs, which was soft and very tasty. Son had chiopotto and said it was good and would def order it again. I has the crusted machong which was also really good! So all in all, a nice experience. Fairly quick and attentive service given we were the earlier diners. Def will go again in the future!
We weren't sure if we'd be able to get a table but the lovely lady downstairs connected with the hostess at the top and was able to fit us in within ten minutes. By the time we got up to the 18th floor and took the 2 long escalators up, they were able to seat us. Our waiter Nate came by to introduce himself and take our drink orders. The entire time we were dining, he was very attentive and professional. Everyone we interacted with was very welcoming and pleasant. I loved how well everyone interacted with other patrons and each other. Pleasant folks all around! We ordered... Sparkling water Crab cakes Pear salad Negroni with Hendricks Gin Longboard Beer Short Ribs Thai Pasta with Shrimp Side of Asparagus Mango Brulee Everything was fresh and delicious. It was perfectly cooked and spiced. The full rotation of the restaurant happens every hour. It turned twice while we dined. It was great seeing the sunset and evening skyline of Waikiki Honolulu area. The service was great. Even the restrooms were clean which is always good. There are many options in this location. The restaurant Top of Waikiki, an open air bar/food area and a really cool looking bar area that may also be a nightclub.
We came for a dinner reservation and then found out the happy hour specials won't be available to us at the dinner table. So yes it is only available at the bar and yes there will be a wait. We waited about 45minutes to an hour to be seated. Our server at the dinner table said he could take us to the bar instead if we wanted to do the HH specials. So we got up and followed him only to find out the bar was full and he was like oh you'll have to wait. I would've gave this place a five but the wait was ridiculously long and they can't even give you time estimates of how long your wait will be. And make sure you bring your ID! That was my biggest mistake!! For some reason I didn't bring my purse and missed out on $5 glasses of Chardonnay. But my husband enjoyed it! Anyways we ordered some of the happy hour special appetizers and they were delicious and different! 1. Duck pizza 2. Crab Rangoons 3. The poke You can order dinner at the bar as well. We thought the apps were a good amount of food already and didn't order any dinner. Great views from the dinner table views though. A really nice touristy way to see everything from the top!
Best place for some late night happy hour in the middle of Waikiki's busy shopping district. Happy hour is one of their busiest times so it is highly advised to make reservations before hand. It is the only revolving restaurant in Waikiki and has the most beautiful views of the city by Waikiki beach. A must see when you're visiting Honolulu. The revolving restaurant is very subtle so you do not feel any moving. **PROs: - Best happy hour in Waikiki - beautiful city and partial beach views - Happy hour prices are fairly reasonable with drinks and appetizers from $10-$15 each **CONs: - happy hour is first come, first serve - reservations for dining area suggested - no reservations may mean a long wait, so make reservations in advance
EXQUISITE & UNIQUE WAIKIKI FOOD EXPERIENCE (TIPS BELOW) This is the second time we visited this restaurant, first time as honeymooners, second time with our children to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. In the Opentable reservation I requested very specific things due to the occasion and they accommodated these little details. The experience was AMAZING! Although my children ordered Grilled Cheese with fries ($9 USD) and Spaghetti with meatballs ($11 USD), my wife and I opted for some of the decent menu options and they were DELICIOUS! The Corn Chowder ($9 USD) was my appetizer and the highlight of the night! I could have kept eating that ALL NIGHT. My wife opted for the Blue Crab Cakes (2 small cakes $18 USD) and they were OK for my taste buds. She ordered the Mama's New York Steak ($38 USD) with a side of Bacon Asiago mashed potatoes ($9 USD) which in my opinion was not extraordinary, but the Huli Chicken ($34 USD) was REALLY GOOD, I could tell how much effort was put into cutting the bird properly, grilling it, the seasoning, etc. Since we had to wait about 40 minutes for our food to come out, Kelly (our waitress) noticed my frustration and gave us complementary dessert: My wife went with the Mango Creme Brûlée and I chose the the Apple pie , neither of them disappointed, at all! TIP: Add specific notes to your Opentable reservation, they obviously read them. TIP: Stop by the restroom on the 18th floor AS SOON AS YOU LEAVE THE ELEVATOR so you don't have to interrupt your dinner. This is particularly important when you have small children. #ruizmedina
After many years of hearing about the restaurant in Waikiki that spins I was finally able to experience it for myself. We came the Saturday evening before father's day to celebrate my dad and husband. There were 7 total in our party. We ordered a few appetizers, several cocktails and non alcoholic beverages, 5 entrès (2 were meals for 2) and 6 desserts. Our total came to just under $900 (not including tip) to give you an idea of the prices. I think considering the amount of people in our party and everything we ordered the price was right. The food was delicious, the service was on point, and the wait time was what I expected for a swanky restaurant. The view...epic! The time of day we went we were able to catch the sun set which was absolutely amazing. The fact that the restaurant actually moves you are able to get a 360 degree view of Waikiki. Now be careful looking at the beautiful view if you have slight vertigo like me you may start to feel the effects of the restaurant movement. There were a couple times that I got a little motion sickness but it quickly passed. So the food was delicious, service on point and view epic but the lighting in certain areas of the restaurant was a little too dim for me, hence the 4 star rating. As the restaurant moves you are able to experience not only a constant changing view of Waikiki but also of the restaurant. Certain areas had just the right about of lighting and others had lighting that was too dim for me... but that definitely won't stop me from coming back!
